Summer Music Festivals to Check Out in Kentucky

Everyone can enjoy live music. Whether you are an avid music fan or a casual listener, there is a show/festival for you this summer. Enjoying the weather and tunes with friends, family, or just by yourself is a great way to get out the door and have some fun. That’s why we’ve put together this list of amazing music festivals in Kentucky to check out this summer!

Waterfront Wednesdays

Louisville’s WFPK Waterfront Wednesdays are a wonderful option for families and music lovers alike this summer. The short, free, and family friendly shows usually contain three acts and are perfect for an affordable music experience. Plus, the shows take place on the scenic Louisville waterfront, providing a great view of the river. If you decide to check it out, keep an eye out for Moon portable restrooms! Portable restrooms are a key part of any large outdoor gathering, and at Moon we are happy to play the role we do in maintaining a clean and healthy environment at these outdoor festivals. The dates and lineups are listed here!

ROMP

ROMP: Bluegrass Roots and Branches Festival is put on by the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This festival is great for fans of bluegrass and folk music both young and old. ROMP, originally standing for “River of Music Party”, takes place every year in Owensboro’s Yellow Creek park. Because of the festival’s mission to acknowledge both the “roots” and “branches” of bluegrass, the lineup is a blend of classic bluegrass performers and refreshing, contemporary acts. For more details on the history and impact of ROMP, check out this awesome article from Owensboro Living, or check out the lineup and get tickets here.

Forecastle

Forecastle is arguably Kentucky’s premiere music festival. By creating a fun and unique atmosphere year after year, the festival has built a young and dedicated following. This summer’s lineup, equal parts eclectic and explosive, is not to be missed. With larger than life headliners such as Louisville native Jack Harlow, psychedelic powerhouse Tame Impala, and two-time Grammy winner Tyler the Creator, Forecastle truly has something for everyone. Even the most niche of music lovers will be excited by the inclusion of cutting edge acts like Still Woozy, Earl Sweatshirt, 100 Gecs, and Jpegmafia. Like WFPK’s Waterfront Wednesdays, Forecastle takes place in Louisville’s Waterfront Park, which means great views and plenty of access to the delicious restaurants found downtown. The full lineup and other details can be found here.

Louder Than Life

If you are looking for exciting, high-volume rock music, then Louder Than Life is the festival for you. Louder Than Life strives to live up to its name by providing festival goers with the ultimate rock, metal, and punk experience. In 2020 the festival, like so many others, was sadly canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, Louder Than Life was able to rally with around 160,000 attendees last year. If Louder Than Life sounds like your kind of festival, you can find tickets and details here.
