Jefferson County is located to the east of Scott County. Its county seat is held by Madison, IN, a historic town with a popular district dedicated to architecture and landmarks. Jefferson County is home to Clifty Falls State Park for hikers, canoers, swimmers, kayakers, and picnickers. Washington County

Shively, KY is home rule-class city bordering the west-end of Louisville, KY. This city is considered a suburb of Louisville, due to its inclusion within the Louisville Metro Government. According to the 2020 census, the population has grown by 2.4% from 2010 to 15,636 people. The city of Shively includes a total of 4.6 square miles, 0.01 square miles of it water.

Shively has a deep connection with the City of Louisville dating all the way back to the founding in 1778. Throughout its life, it has been a farm, a mill, a tavern, and a legal Prohibition distillery site, amongst other things. After its economy boost with the opening of 8 distilleries after the end of Prohibition, Shively was thriving. Because of this, Louisville attempted to annex both the residential and business districts. However, they were only successful in annexing the residential portion in 1938.

Unfortunately, as the city grew, so did the scandals – especially after the economy dropped with the closing of several distilleries. Shively has been known as “Lively Shively” in the past due to prostitution and adult entertainment in the area. The city was also the site of the Wade Incident of 1954. Despite these struggles, Shively has seen a lot of improvement with the help of public works projects and a focus on community development and tourism.

About Clarksville, IN
